Why It Matters to Family History SIG – MEMBERS ONLY
Wednesday, October 2
Why It Matters to Family History SIG – MEMBERS ONLY  (SIGs)
9:30 am to 11:30 am
ZOOM MEETING
SIG Leader:  Debra Kabinier
A series of topics examines some of the important issues facing family historians as they gain information about their ancestors. Each session will be a set of slides examining the topic, followed by open discussions. All sessions will be held via Zoom.

This month's topic is:  Politics, the Law & the Courthouse – Why It Matters
Politics frames our lives – from local to national to international. A genealogist must investigate and understand the laws that stood at the time of their ancestors. Courthouses are important because they keep records.

Registration to attend each session is required – send an email to Deb Kabinier at debkabinier@gmail.com to register for each session. Several days prior to the meeting, you will receive an email that contains the Zoom link you'll need to attend.

SAGS Monthly Meeting  (Monthly Meetings)
1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Zoom Meeting Only -- Open to the Public

MAIN PROGRAM:  Exploring ChatGPTs Created for Genealogists
Many genealogists are familiar with ChapGPT – the leading artificial intelligence platform for business and personal use. What most don't know is that specialized ChatGPTs have been created to help expand your genealogy experience. Learn how to find these special tools and how they work..

SPEAKER:  Thomas MacEntee
Thomas MacEntee, with 40+ years of experience in technology and in genealogy, will be our guide on how to incorporate ChatGPT in our genealogy research. Thomas has taught over 1,000 in-person and virtual genealogy lectures since 2010, served on boards of many genealogical societies, and helped researchers save money on genealogy products and services. He is ready for the next chapter in his professional journey – changing the way genealogists acquire new research skills, motivating researchers to take a chance on new technologies, and improving how family stories and heirlooms are preserved and passed on to the next generations.

Why It Matters to Family History SIG – MEMBERS ONLY

Why It Matters to Family History SIG – MEMBERS ONLY  (SIGs)
9:30 am to 11:30 am
ZOOM MEETING
SIG Leader:  Debra Kabinier
A series of topics examines some of the important issues facing family historians as they gain information about their ancestors. Each session will be a set of slides examining the topic, followed by open discussions. All sessions will be held via Zoom.

This month's topic is:  Critical Thinking – Why It Matters
Just collecting records about an ancestor does not tell their story. If we do not analyze the information, we fail as genealogists and family historians. Does the information we collected make sense? How does it tell a story? Are there missing periods of time? We will discuss methods to help facilitate critical thinking.

Registration to attend each session is required – send an email to Deb Kabinier at debkabinier@gmail.com to register for each session. Several days prior to the meeting, you will receive an email that contains the Zoom link you'll need to attend.
