Education:  SIGs & Classes

A new SIG – Why It Matters to Family History – is being offered in 2024. A series of 8 topics will examine some of the important issues facing family historians as they gain information about their ancestors. Each session will be a set of slides examining the topic, followed by open discussions. Deb Kabinier will be the facilitator for this unique SIG. Details about each session's topic, meeting date and times can be found in the Events Calendar.

Our Beginner's Genealogy Group, open to non-members & members, is a great way to get started with researching your family tree. This group meets the 4th Thursday of the month from 3:00pm-4:30pm at the Genealogy Library at La Posada, and via Zoom. For more details, contact Jon Otto, Group Leader, at jonotto48@yahoo.com, and check our Events Calendar for future meeting dates.

The Family Tree Maker SIG meets monthly, via Zoom, on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. If you are a SAGS member interested in exploring this software, send an email to Karen Feeney, Group Leader, and your name will be added to the group list. A monthly email is sent to all SIG members to remind you of the upcoming meeting and includes the Zoom link for the meeting. Check the Events Calendar for up-to-date information on meeting dates.

Storytellers: Writing Family Stories (Classes)
If there were no stories to pass along, the history of a family would be only names and dates.
The Storytellers class for SAGS members meets from 10:00am - 12:00pm on the second Tuesday of the month from October through May at the Friends in Deed location. This is a class for those who want to write to preserve their personal stories and those of ancestors in a written format. This is not a drop-in SIG; you must register in advance to join the class. For more information, please contact Becky McCreary:  rebeccamccreary764@gmail.com

To get more details about our SIGs, or to suggest a new class or SIG on a topic that's near and dear to you, send an email to our Education Director, Debra Einweck, at education@azsags.org.
